Winter came back, which although not unheard of in April is certainly unwelcome. Yesterday any outside work was done once again with gloves and toques and coats. By this weekend we’re supposed to be back in the warmer weather.

Even though most of the snow has melted we still have significant run off in our small creek. The fields are saturated with water right now, so any bit of rain goes directly into the ditches, creeks, and eventually river.

It is most likely their proximity to the house (and its warmth) that causes these daffodils to be our earliest risers every year. They poked their heads out a couple of days ago during a warm spell. Last night the temperature dropped back to -12C, which may have made them reconsider coming out so early.

Spring skies are always a beautiful sight, and little hint at the growing season that is just around the corner. It’s always nice to see the sun so high in the sky at 6:00pm compared to two months ago when it was pitch dark by 5:30.

Some of our plants give us something to look at all year round. We really like our ornamental grasses which have character no matter what the season. They are as much of a pleasure to look at as they are to listen to as they move in the wind.
