The Return of Winter (and the Geese)

Winter came back, which although not unheard of in April is certainly unwelcome. Yesterday any outside work was done once again with gloves and toques and coats. By this weekend we’re supposed to be back in the warmer weather.

Spring Run Off

Even though most of the snow has melted we still have significant run off in our small creek. The fields are saturated with water right now, so any bit of rain goes directly into the ditches, creeks, and eventually river.

Lonely Fencepost

Out in our riverside pasture a lone fence post stands waiting for the return of the fence. We bring in the fencelines every fall because otherwise the river would flood, freeze around the wires, and drag them back into the river. Leaves the fencepost lonely, but his fence will come back in about a month.

Birdhouse

No one is home right now in this birdhouse, the tenants are probably still down south.  In a month or two we’ll start to see bits of straw and hay sticking out and then the peep peep of little birds.

The Big Oak
