Don’t Step on the Flowers

Posted By Bob on July 5, 2009

2_dont_step_jul_4_09So between the kids, dog, cats, guests, and wildlife we often get the question about flowers getting stepped on. Yes it happens. The solution so far works great, we simply grow more than we need and don’t sweat it when it happens. :)

Happy in the Shade

Posted By Bob on July 1, 2009

1_happy_shadeJen’s dad sometimes buys old grain bins and transports them to his farm. Recently he brought us the slightly rusted pieces that he couldn’t use. Even though they weren’t structurally sound for a bin, we could use them to build a shade structure for the pasture. The goats immediately took occupancy while the sheep looked on in wonder. After a few days they started to share nicely.

Lily Almost

Posted By Bob on June 17, 2009

lilyThere are lilies throughout the farm wherever Jen has found the desire to plant them. She knows better than I which colour is going to jump out when they go from bud to bloom. My guess for these is yellow, but I’ll probably be incorrect.

Hostas

Posted By Bob on June 11, 2009

hostas_june_11We’ve used hostas for quite some time now in our bouquets as greenery or filler. It’s always a joy to watch them go from little spikes coming out of the ground to full bushy leafiness in a short four weeks. All that and without needing much sun either as they are a shade loving plant. Each year our supply seems to grow as new varieties come out.

Zinnia Plugs

Posted By Bob on June 6, 2009

zinnias_june_6It’s about time we start to post pictures of things actually growing. Here you see some newly planted zinnia plugs straight from the greenhouse into the dirt. It will take a bit for them to “catch” but once the roots get down good and we get some hot weather they’ll soon fill the bed with greenery and flowers.

More Bed Prep

Posted By Bob on May 30, 2009

bed_may_30More and more manure. More and more tilling. There isn’t a whole lot to look at that isn’t brown at this time of year unless you walk up real close to the beds. Here we prep one of the few remaining beds for this season. Just a few more to go after this one and all the dirt is done!
