It&#8217;s always a joy to watch them go from little spikes coming out of the ground to full bushy leafiness in a short four weeks.  All that and without needing much sun either as they are a shade loving plant.  Each year our supply seems to grow as new varieties come out.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[The first blooms are out, and of course they are the daffodils.  The hint of yellow here and there when you walk outside is awesome.  Tulips should be coming on soon as I see most of them are in bud stage.  It seems a little late, but every year is different.

		<description><![CDATA[Transplanting is in full swing.  We pull the baby plants from their plugs and put them into larger plug sheets or pots.  This will be their last artificial home for the next few weeks and then they&#8217;ll go right into the ground.

		<description><![CDATA[Sometimes a whole bunch of plants grow in one spot and we have a discussion about whether they are weeds (probably) or a reseeded flower from last year.  Usually it only takes two to three weeks before they reveal their true identity.  Then it&#8217;s either the hoe or the watering can depending on the outcome.

		<description><![CDATA[It is most likely their proximity to the house (and its warmth) that causes these daffodils to be our earliest risers every year.  They poked their heads out a couple of days ago during a warm spell.  Last night the temperature dropped back to -12C, which may have made them reconsider coming out so early.

In a few weeks we&#8217;ll be forced to start transplanting and letting them grow a bit bigger under plastic.
