Electric Fence

We spent a bit of time putting up a divider fence in our pasture. Our goal this year is to split the pasture into three equal areas and then rotate the sheep and goats through those areas every three weeks. This should reduce worm load, as well as give the grass a chance to bounce back for six weeks before getting mowed down again.

This is Ronald hiding behind his mom. He is a little scared of the camera. He was born on the coldest day in the middle of January, and spent most of his first 12 hours of life in our kitchen. Now, since he is an only child and gets all the milk, he is growing like a weed. Ronald is a purebred polled Dorset.

Lonely Fencepost

Out in our riverside pasture a lone fence post stands waiting for the return of the fence. We bring in the fencelines every fall because otherwise the river would flood, freeze around the wires, and drag them back into the river. Leaves the fencepost lonely, but his fence will come back in about a month.
